A good camera for concerts?

Hi,So I find myself going to alot of concerts and one thing that always bothered me was that I always end up with rubbish pictures! So for Christmas I looking to get a good camera that will prefore well in the low light of concerts(I go to alot of rock shows so there is usually no lasers and sh*t to brighten up the place) I’de also like there to be a pretty big zoom distance
So to break it down,The main things I would like are; High ISO
*Reasonably small and compact
*Good zoom
*I’d like a fast shutter speed since there will be alot moving
*Not overly expensive?

Does such a wonder exist?

I have a Nikon COOLPIX P100 that takes great photos, but doesn’t do that great at concerts. I am looking for a camera that takes clear photos at concerts(ex: Adam Lambert concert) The concerts I go to have lasers and stuff like that and the objects are constantly moving. But I also go to house party concerts(ex: Monte Pittman) where the lighting is odd. I would like for the camera to take pretty good scenery photos too as I like to take nature pictures as well.

What I want:
Would rather a Canon
High ISO
Doesn’t need to be small/compact
Good zoom(My Nikon has 26x zoom & love that about it)
I’d like a fast shutter speed since many objects will be moving
Highest price I’ll go: $475

I don’t mind getting a used camera. I will most likely be buying this camera off of Ebay or Amazon so higher priced cameras will be cheaper if I buy a used one.

I am not worried about accessories because my birthday is in about 3 months, then Christmas is only 1 month after that so I will be getting a lot of money or I can just ask for the accessories. So the price doesn’t include all that kind of stuff.

canon sx230hs with 14x zoom & good lowlight photos for $299. otherwise just get a dslr with a large aperture and zoom lens which will set you back maybe $800. check out the canon s95 and nikon s9100/s8100 too

I guess you already know you’re asking for a miracle, right?

Compact camera sensors will never be able to compare in ISO performance to DSLRs. This will be your sticking point if you’re limited to compact cameras. In low light to keep the shutter speed high you’re going to have to bump the ISO though.

Black and white always looks better with noise (grain) than colour shots so you could try that.

The Fuji EXR models feature trick sensors to help in low light and also have some fairly big zoom range. Take a look at those e.g F500EXR with up to ISO12800. The issue with that though is the maximum aperture is f3.5-5.3. In low light you ideally need wide apertures e.g. f2.8. The trick sensor will help but there’s no substitution for wide aperture and large sensor.

There does exist a compact camera with a larger sensor and a fast aperture. The Samsung EX1 for example has a maximum aperture of f1.8. The trade off is that it doesn’t have much in the way of zoom. This also goes for cameras like the Powershot S90.

So….

Large sensor & wide aperture BUT small zoom = Samsung EX1 / Powershot S95, etc

Smaller sensor & smaller aperture BUT big zoom and trick sensor = Fujifilm F500EXR, etc

police 4×4 on motorway bridge do they have speed cameras?

was driving on the motorway the other night doing about 85 mph in the left hand lane and the car in front was doing easy 90 95 mph and as i was driving down noticed a 4×4 police car parked on the bride in front i slowed down befor i get close to him just under seventy but the car in front didn’t slow down until they was under the bridge i noticed he had put the police 4×4 in reverse cause it was dark and you could see his reverse lights but he never ended up pulling me our the other car up so would this mean he had a camera in the 4×4.? but never seen any flash and he was moving when i got close would he need to be still to use a laser camera.?
if they had a laser would i get something in the post our would they off pulled me over.

it was about 11 o’clock at night very dark and he was reversing to the slip round as i got close to the bridge looked like he was coming to pull one off us over . would he of set off in reverse if he was just there doing speed traps dont they stay in one place not on the move if there just gonna send a ticket.?

Yes it’s possible that they had a camera. If they caught you while you were still speeding, they have 14 days to send you a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP). If you receive one after 14 days it is not legally enforceable.

Beltronics RX 65 Pro vs Vitronic Poliscan Laser Scanner

The Laser detector is the PoliScanspeed from VITRONIC. This can be seen in front of the parked Nissan X-Trail at time 6 seconds and 55-58 seconds

While going in opposite side of the Vitronic Poliscan Laser Scanner at 6 seconds interval of the video, the Beltronics RX-65 Pro detects laser scatter after passing the camara at the 10 second interval of the video.
