My data speed(4g) drops to 2g(50 mbps) after I use up my data.. I need to use my google maps(navigation) GPS and wanted to know if it would lag too much to work correctly.

The drivers of my company want to know how does a GPS tracking unit calculate speed and how accurate is it.
For average speed over a long distance it takes the distance traveled and divides it by the time taken - exactly what the other answers said.

I was cycling down a flat road, Garmin Edge states my speed was 30 mph, I was not pedaling super fast but. Can you tell me is this speed realistic? The touring bike RRP was £579.

Can an after market GPS system for a vehicle track the speed, acceleration, locations and stuff like that when the GPS system is turned off but still in the vehicle?
It can track the locations provided you type in where you want to go. As for speed and acceleration, no.
