snooper speed camera detector…?

March 3rd, 2010 | by admin |

OK I have an old school speed camera detector and it goes off at everything. Traffic lights, fire stations ect..

1st question, do they make a camera detector that doen’t go off all the time and

2nd, are they now illigal? and what if i’m caught using one. can I just turn if off and say it wasn’t in use?
Also I forgot to add I want it to detect mobile cameras aswell as fixed ones.

I don’t know about the 1st one but the second one is a bit of a grey area. It’s not illegal to own one or use one but it is illegal to act on the information they give you so if it goes off and you slow down then theoretically you’re breaking the law

the reason it goes off at everywhere is because they pick up signals from burglar alarms also

tbh a decent sat nav with pre loaded camera locations might be a better choice, seeing as the police don’t use speed guns that much anymore. i have a tom tom1 and it picks up all the fixed locations with free updates for a year

The average High St is loaded with radar at the same frequency as cameras, strange no outcry about them as with mobile phone masts! Your detector will go off continually on it.
I tried one, sent it back as faulty, they sent me another one. Acted the same. I sent them both back, they started to argue with me, until I pointed that I worked at Kelvin Hughes!
They are one of the oldest manufactures of Radar systems.

Detectors are now illegal. Having it installed is an offence even if switched off. Even in the boot a problem in France. Warning devices based on Satnav/GPS are legal, but only as good as the last update, so won’t help with mobile units. Most countries accept GPS type units but still a bit questionable in Switzerland
