OK, so Redflex have possibly come up with a real game changer. Photo radar vans that cannot be detected before 300 feet, and that take your picture at 200 feet. Yes, that means 100 feet reaction time and slowing distance.

This video is not meant to be a criticism of the V1 in any way. The point of the video is not to show how little warning the V1 gives for this new threat. Rather the point is to show that if a detector as good as the V1 only gets this much range, imagine how bad all the others must be!!!

The V1 is still one of the best out there and that’s why we use it (every day!) In fact, this individual V1 unit is “famously” good on K Band. It was tested by GOL (www.GuysofLidar.com) and outperformed all others on K Band. You should consider it a “juiced” unit for K band performance. That’s why we chose it for these test runs against this new K band threat.

80% of radar detectors on the US market do not even register an alert for these new camera vans until you are past them and have a ticket. This is a game changing radar camera system. It is completely different to the radar you encounter in police cruisers.

In this video, the V1 is mounted lower for ease of filming. We did have the V1 mounted high on lots of runs against this camera van system. It makes no difference whatsoever against this type of radar unit. One of the runs was shown in the vid at 3:08. The Video Thumbnail even shows it mounted high.

The point of showing the C100 in the same video is not to say it’s better than the V1. It is a completely different type of product. We’re not saying, “You should have the C100 instead of a V1.” We’re saying, “You should consider the C100 as well as your V1.” The two units are designed to work together and complement each other; the V1 for blistering performance and arrows; the C100 for fixed camera alerts, marked locations, well known speed trap sites, false alarm suppression of the V1’s false alarms, etc, etc.

The C100 does everything the V1 doesn’t, and vice-versa.

    Very true. I drove through Arizona last year at about 1 AM, came across a temporary road sign that was BACKWARDS on the side of the road. About 15 seconds later, big flash.I assume the backwards sign was the “photo enforcement ahead” sign. Almost got in a wreck because of it, but they weren’t concerned.

    Your point should also mean that the fixed cameras which never move should never catch any drivers out because they have warning signs. That’s not what happens in practice. You could pass the same camera for hundreds of times and the one time you forget it’s there because you’re distracted for some reason, you get a ticket.

    That’s the point of our product: to make sure that if you have been distracted, you get a reminder to help you focus again, so you avoid a ticket.

    That’s a fair point in theory, but over 100,000 AZ drivers can confirm that it’s not like that in practice. What if you missed the warning sign because it was obscured by other traffic, or you weren’t paying attention for a brief second (we all do that.) There are many reasons why you can miss a sign, assuming the Redflex employees (not DPS Staff) managed to put the sign up properly in the first place.

    Thats a pretty good detector however AZ DPS are required to post PHOTO ENFORCEMENT signs almost 1/8 of a mile before the photo vehicles to let you know you’re coming up on one, so you either have to be blind or a complete idiot to get a ticket. And yes, I do live here.

    Saying the C100 is inferior to the V1 is like saying cars are inferior to motorcycles. You’re not comparing apples with apples. They are completely different products that deal with completely different threats. There is no comparison. They both complement each other and work together.

    I’ll repeat myself for the last time. These are the threats that the Valentine 1 DOES NOT ALERT TO:

    1. Red light cameras
    2. Speed cameras
    3. Speed-on-Green red light cameras
    4. Point-to-point speed cameras

    In addition it is virtually useless (like all other radar detectors) against Instant On radar (which is the point of a GPS mobile trap site alert.

    Why spend more money on an inferior product? I have avoided at least 200+ speedtraps and many laser traps with my V1… No tickets yet. Why would I need to buy another product when the Valentine 1 alone handles ALL threats?

    Detecting LIDAR is …
    Detecting LIDAR is virtually pointless. In all but a very rare set of circumstances, it only means that you already got the ticket. You need to check out effective laser jammers like Blinder or Laser Interceptor, but please be aware they are illegal to use in California.

    For complete protection you therefore need a GPS detector, a radar detector and a laser jammer. Cheetah GPS detectors are the only ones that let all three parts of your defense work together as one complete integrated system.

    Of course we’re not competing against the V1. We make a Cheetah Radar Detector Interface to plug into the V1 to help with false alarm suppression.

    We don’t make Radar Detector Interfaces for all radar detectors, only the good ones. If we didn’t rate the V1, we wouldn’t have bothered to make an interface for it, now would we?

    You’re not looking at the bigger picture. You’re only looking at mobile camera vans. The Valentine 1 is great for detecting radar but it doesn’t alert to red light cameras, speed cameras, speed-on-green red light cameras or point-to-point average speed cameras. It doesn/’t give you reminders about well known speed trap areas where the police might be using Instant On or laser. You can’t mark locations on the Valentine 1. You can’t update it through the internet. That’s what the C100 is for.

    And that’s the point. All K band sources are detected. This includes every Wallgreens, CVS, gas station and mall car park because automatic doors mostly use K Band radar in the police spectrum. These are the most annoying false alarms for most radar detector users. When you hook up a C100 to the Valentine 1 using a Cheetah Radar Detector Interface, the C100 can get rid of these falses using speed-sensitive automatic muting.

    Mobile camera reminders on the C100 do not mean that the camera is necessarily there at that exact moment in time. They mean that you are approaching a location where police are well known to set up mobile traps, so be on the look out in this area.

    I’ll say it again. The Cheetah C100 is not a radar detector so it doesn’t detect radar. It alerts to locations that are stored in its database and memory. The point of the product is to alert to fixed speed cameras, red light cameras, speed-on-green, point-to-point cameras, etc. It can help for mobile traps by alerting to the fixed locations where they are often set up, or by alerting to locations that they mark themselves.

    I work for Cheetah. Of course our videos are there to help explain Cheetah products. The title of the Channel should be a clue.

    This video was made as a favor for the radar detector community to show a new threat that folks should take seriously, and perhaps re-evaluate how they treat low strength freeway alerts. It shows how little range even a great detector like the V1 has against some of the latest camera vans. Cheaper detectors (sub $300) won’t even give an alert until you pass the van.

    The key here folks is a good warning from radar units and LIDAR units where ever they may be. The fact is a GPS unit does NO good to a driver driving down a road he/she has never been down …However, a Valentine 1 is definitely going to give proper warning to any threats. END OF STORY.

    And in response to your “false alarms” comment.. The valentine 1 has the best false alarm supression system on the market. Rarely do I ever get X band alarms, and all K and KA radar bands are detected…Anyone that owns a Valentine 1 long enough will know what type of signals to pay attention to or not.
