What are the police doing in their cars, hidden at the side of the road? (UK)?
February 13th, 2010 | by admin |I asked earlier about how speed cameras work. I’ve been looking it up on google and it has intrigued me. When police cars (not vans) are kind of hidden on roads, what are they doing? The police were sitting in their car and for these radar or laser guns to work they have to be outside the car? Also I think to be checking speeds they have to be visible from a good distance?
From experience ( I used to do it) I can assure you that most police officers hidden by the side of the road are doing nothing more than catching up on their paperwork, they get precious little time to do it at the station.
Also, radar guns do work from inside the car, they only require the window to be open!
And why do you think they have to be visible from a distance, Burglars don’t demand prior warning do they?

They might have been waiting for someone or looking out for a certain car to go by on that road.

They can still check passing vehicles using ANPR cameras even if they are standstill at side of road.

being pickys on innocent ppl for the minorist offences cos they ‘think’ they got nothing better to do when there is far better and more important things going on they should be dealing with instead
as if boyracers who rag through roads plaged with little kids everywhere at over 60+ is more acceptable than those doing 90+ on a clear empty motorway

Im not sure about the uk, but in America, the radar/lazer guns work from inside the car, stopped or moving, short or long range, sometimes if you can barely even see the officer. Most places don’t accept the excuse that the officer was hiding, because it doesn’t really matter, you were speeding, which is illegal.
Also the cops generally aren’t just picking on people, they are doing their job, which for a large part is to present a presence, deterring crime, and also to patrol and cite offenders who they observe breaking the law. Most laws are there for your safety, and not just to generate revenue.
By the way the police don’t make the law, they just enforce them, as their job description dictates. Next time you want to hassle a cop for giving you a ticket for speeding, and you know your a## was speeding, think of someone coming to your work, and giving you a rash of crap for making a copy, or typing a cover letter. Come on people, you may not like a ticket, but your lives would not be as safe as they are without those who protect you. I’m not saying there are not problems in the system, but why don’t we concentrate on them instead of fighting a speeding ticket….that you know you deserve.
