Car surveillance Camera Set-Up?

June 15th, 2010 | by admin |

I’m thinking about putting a Car surveillance system in my car. It would run on a separate power source along with powering on when the car is on. It would also have the date and time when its recording.
It would consist of a total of 3 camera’s. One either on my dash facing forward or on the opposite end of the rear view mirror.
One in the Middle of my car where the light is facing my odometer.
And One placed behind the backseat facing my rear.

They would hopefully be small camera’s and since I have tinted windows along with my car being black it wouldn’t be noticeable. I’ve seen the set-up in another Rx-8 and it helps a lot as its perfect for evidence in vehicle accidents along with body shop abuse. It would be expensive as I know but I’m not too worried about that as much as how it would be set up.

Reason I’m doing this is mainly because my friend had gotten a ticket on the freeway for speeding even though he was going 60 in a 65 zone on the freeway. Ticket said he was going 70 and I was right there when it happened. The camera in the middle would always be focused on my tachometer where it shows the speed in case I ever get pulled over for speeding, I will present that in court to help my case. Along with the other camera’s in case I ever get into a accident. Radar detectors are nice but I don’t like relying on them too much.
Another incident where I read it helped a guy find out that his car was being abused and driven around for fun by the people that worked at the auto-shop instead of being repaired. He also had surveillance camera set up in his car. The auto-shop workers were unaware that it was recording the whole time.

In all this would be a safety precaution/measure if anything like this would happen in the future. I, however do plan on keeping my car for a very long time.

*I live in California if that helps.

Any advice/opinion or even recommendations on products?

What you’re looking for is called a dashboard camera. I’ve never attempted a setup as elaborate as what you’re trying to do. I recommend getting a cheap one and playing with it so you’ll be more qualified to get what you really want.

Before investin a bunch of money, I would check on the legality of this in your state.

Cops never like to have the public get an edge on them LOL
